Object Role Modeling |

|
I am one of 10 people in the U.S. who are certified in Object Role Modeling (ORM).
ORM is a general method of analysis that can be used for just about anything that needs clarified or analyzed, but is especially effective for defining, articulating, designing, discussing, and documenting information systems. It is based on predicate mathematics, and utilizes logic to "prove" the truth of facts about an organization.
It allows the facilitation of communication between all people involved in a project; people "on the lines" in the business, business management, technology management, technology professionals. From ONE set of documentation, everyone involved in a project can see what they need to see, and can see it their own language. It is this communication that is the key to any successful project, and no other method I've seen comes close to Object Role Modeling at being able to bridge the communication gap between technology and business. When this method is done properly by a trained practitioner, there is nothing left to "guess" at or interpret. Both the technology people and the business people can see and understand exactly what is being agreed upon. This is the most effective way to reduce risk of failure on any information systems project.
ORM allows us to model the business, most other methods simply model data. This distinction can mean the difference in acceptable return on investment or not, and usually means a significant reduction in future maintenance because the concept or meaning of the business has been represented in the database, which doesn't change often.
ORM can easily fit into any existing method your organization utilizes, since any other method of business analysis or data modeling is a subset of ORM. For example, if your organization uses Erwin as a data modeling tool, the ORM documentation can be copied and pared down to fit into Erwin for your database people to use. Since important information will be lost because Erwin doesn't support the inclusion of it, the rest of the documentation can be saved elsewhere.
I can support / mentor / train your people in modeling the business, or can do it completely so you can focus on other activities.
